We're all winners here...

It's time to throw a party. Which I'm doing tonight, but it's not in my honor. Tonight's my friend R's bachelorette party, and it's going to be fun, if I do say so myself. And I do.
But I should throw a party for myself because I'm done! I finished writing manuscript #5, and I'm doing a little celebratory dancing around my apartment (of course, that may be attributed to the caffeinated latte I had for breakfast, too).
And our last reason to celebrate? Why, I'm announcing the winner of my contest of course. The winner of this week's contest is Ruth! So Ruth, please email me at erin @ erineisenberg. net with your full name and mailing address, and I'll get these books out to you as soon as possible. Congratulations!
And since there are no real losers here at my blog, check back next month for another contest! It's sure to bring out the Scottish in you.

Contest time!

It's been too long folks, so to gear back up into what is my normal life (and away from all the drama of the last month), we have a contest.
Entering is easy, all you have to do is leave me a comment telling me what you love best about fall. See? Simple.
What's the prize, you ask? In honor of the new school year I have a YA themed treat for you. The winner will receive a signed copy of the now out of print Braced2Bite by Serena Robar, a copy of Shrink to Fit by Dona Sarkar, as well as a copy of Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr. All of these authors are fun, fabulous, and guaranteed to leave you wanting more.
So leave me a note, and take a chance. Winners will be announced Friday, September 26th.

Wahoo!!

For all of you who've been watching this blog to hear the good news: We're going back to school!! After nine days, we reached a tentative agreement on Friday, and voted tonight to accept the contract and go back to work. This means I'll be up bright and early to get into my classroom (for the first time since Labor Day weekend), in order to set up all those last minute deals...
It's funny, by the end of the year I'm always as excited for Summer break as the students. But by the time the fall rolls around, I'm ready to get back to work and meet my new crop of students. Of course, thanks to our strike, we have lost several days we'd normally get off...like our mid-winter break. On the bright side, I don't have to work through July...so I'll take it.
Make sure to check back later in the week for a contest announcement, as well as the story of what happens when you take two people in their 70's to the zoo.

Life gets interesting...

Life doesn't stop just because your job goes on strike. Nope. This week alone I have 3 meetings, two birthday and family visits. So happy birthday to Lil' Sis. I hope it brings you all your dreams. And happy Birthday to Rach. Can't wait to celebrate somehow with you. Now, off to see the grandparents. Maybe we'll head to the SAM for some quality museum time...

Cheering up

I'm intent on putting myself in a better mood from last week. The strike continues, and it's draining on my energy. I needed a better outlook...and I found it.
Step 1: Shabbat dinner with friends to celebrate one's birthday.
Check.
Step 2: Purchase large bouquet of mixed flowers to brighten the apartment...and make me feel special.
Check.
Step 3: Laugh my way through work at WW.
Check.
Step 4: Meet friend for appetizers before show. Show up at wrong restaurant. Rush to other one.
Check.
Step 5: See Shrek the Musical. Be entertained by two little boys under the age of 5 and their barely discernable commentary throughout.
Check.
Step 6: Run into friend from grad program. Catch up briefly during intermission.
Check.
All in all, a pretty good weekend so far. If it clears, and if Mom wakes up, we'll probably bike this morning. It's getting to be that time of year, when we return the bikes to storage for the winter and find a new activity to occupy our "together" time. A weekend full of friends and family, what better way to turn the weekend to a better note.

Scrambling...

I'm just dropping in for a brief moment to let you know I've been hard at work on my current manuscript, as well as pulling my classroom together for the new year. Unfortunately, we will not be starting tomorrow morning as planned. Tomorrow morning my district goes on strike, as they were unable to come to an agreement on a new contract. The parties are still communicating, but as of right now we don't know how long the strike will last. We've received lots of support from local families, and I almost cried when we arrived at our union meeting to find parents and children outside with signs showing their support. To all of you, thank you. You'll never know how much we teachers appreciate your support and kind words. Hopefully the situation will resolve quickly. In the meantime, my mind is justifiably wrapped up right now. I plan to blog again later in the week, hopefully with good news.
