You've got to be able to laugh
As we already know, I'm a bit on the clumsy side. I bang into walls, routinely hit my head, and constantly trip over my own two feet. Through all of this, I rarely injury myself seriously. A few bumps and bruises, and I'm off and running again.
This weekend was so beautiful, R and I decided to go rollerskating (rollerblading for him). I prefer skates because I'm on four wheels in a quad set-up, instead of inline. More balance, which is very important for me.
We were doing fine until we turned around and were faced with going back down the hill we'd had to go up earlier. It wasn't particularly steep, but let's be honest, I don't need steep to cause problems. I started out okay, and but was picking up speed fast enough to concern me, so instead of heading all the way to the bottom, I decided to try to make the ease off on to the bike lane.
That's where it all went wrong. One moment I was up, the next I was tumbling over. I'm now left with bumps, bruises, cuts, scrapes, and a knee swollen enough to look like a boiled egg. My wedding band and engagement ring are all scraped up on the bottom. But in spite of all of this? I just want to laugh. First because it's really so ridiculous. I'm just a walking disaster. More than that, though, I want to laugh because as R put it, "All the bruises and scrapes mean you're out living." And I'll take that over being holed up inside any day of the week.
Sure, it hurts. And it's ugly. And it'll interfere with my ability to zumba properly for a while. But really it's almost a badge of honor, and I'll take it. Labels: random musings, spring
Working weekend...
It's been a weekend of work, writing, cleaning and errands. Yesterday, after working in the morning, the boy and I ran errands for the bulk of the day. This includes stopping at two separate Barnes and Nobles to find a copy of Cathy Yardley's Turning Japanese (along with Confessions of a Little Black Dress by Elizabeth Boyle and Sudden Death by Allison Brennan). Today was the day to clean, clean, clean. I'm on wash load two, with at least two to three more on the way, as I'm in a fit of spring cleaning apparently. And the cleaning bug hasn't only struck me. The Boy took it upon himself to clean off one of my counters (where did you put that tray again?), and is currently helping out by removing some liquid adhesive stuff from a plate/cup set of mine. Through all this, I still got about 8 pages written, plus ordered my copy of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10. What have you been up to?Labels: random musings, spring
Freedom!
I am happy to announce I'm finally free of report cards...at least until June. But we won't speak of it. Still, I'm done with the bane of my existance and spring has sprung...sort of. It's still nice and cool out, but the cherry blossoms have begun to bloom, and the sun shines more and more frequently. I love it!Another sign of spring is my elementary school's annual auction. Funds raised at the auction help to fund many projects at the school, along with a fair number of salaries. I didn't go last year, but after all the stories I had to go to this year's. And let me tell you, this auction surpassed any expectation I might have had. The theme? Denim & Diamonds. And when I tell you that some people showed up in gun belts? I'm not exaggerating. I laughed so hard last night...too bad I can't share half of the stories. Let's just say fun was had by all, and children's artwork went to the highest bidder. Truth, my friends, is most definitely stranger than fiction. Thank goodness the parents of my classroom are such wonderful, down to earth people. I'm so lucky this year. That said, it's back to writing, revising and the fun that is normal life. Labels: geeky fun, spring, teaching
