Into a Writer's HeadThursday, July 08, 2010Sunny days... I'm sorry. I know it's hot out. I know you don't want to be trapped in your car running errands (most likely). And I know that being on a diet sucks. But please, leave me and my light Green Tea Frappucino alone. Don't covet. Don't sigh and force yourself to stop banging your head against the car door in a vain attempt to get at me. Just give in. Go buy yourself one. It's hot out. You deserve it. As for me? I'm trying to work up the courage to go knock the wasp's nest growing on my porch out, so I can enjoy sitting in the shade. Wish me luck! Labels: summer vacation, sun Monday, April 06, 2009In honor of Spring BreakMy district is finally on Spring Break, which means I'm finally getting my much needed "vacation." Not that I'm going anywhere, really. But the break came sneaking in and bringing with it sun, sun, and more sun! After months of the rain, sunshine and almost 70 degree weather is downright tropical for me. So is it any wonder I broke out the bicycle this afternoon? Of course not. Mom and I have another ride planned for tomorrow, and I hope the ride is smoother now that I've already done one. In honor of Spring Break, good books, and a chance (finally!) to relax for a few days, I'm offering another contest. All you have to do is leave a comment telling me your favorite thing about Spring, and you'll be entered to win a copy of Julia Harper's For the Love of Pete. Contest runs through Thursday night at midnight and the winner will be announced Friday morning. Make sure to check back on Friday, not just for the winner, but also to hear about how I fit 14 people into my tiny apartment for the first night Passover Seder. Tuesday, July 01, 2008PricelessMiles ridden on the bike: 58Pages written: 21 Books read: 4 Movies watched: 2 Hours slept: more than I can count Being on summer vacation: priceless Okay, hokey I know. But I had to. School ended a week ago Friday. I've spent a busy week between relaxing and working job #2. I've visited with friends, hung out with Mom, and I've written. After almost a month off thanks to report cards and various other end of school duties, I needed to get back to my book. And get back I did! I'm not sure it was my wisest move to set a goal of 20 pages after not writing for four weeks...but when have I ever claimed to be wise? This week is looking to be another beautiful week, filled with more biking, more writing, and way more reading. And maybe we'll even throw in some adventures. Labels: books, random musings, sun Thursday, May 22, 2008Let the sun shine in...This weekend brought sunshine and warmth...two things desperately lacking in the Pacific Northwest 10 months out of the year. Usually we have to wait until July for the truly delightful weather, but every once in a while we get a peak early on. This year took longer than normal to warm up, but once it did? Look out world! My body loved the warmth so much, most of the world thought I was loopy Saturday...and this was all without caffeine. Of course, with the sun and warmth comes a few undesireable things. Like the pasty white skin revealed by shorts and (in the case of men) lack of shirts. Seriously folks...when you're skin is so white, that we can use you for a road reflector...or possibly a panel on a satellite? Cover up. I know it's arm, and I know you want to fully experience the beautiful weather...but you're a hazard to society. One glimpse of your chalky skin, sans shirt, and we're all clutching our eyes screaming, "It burns, it burns!" Now I understand I'm not really one to talk. My legs are approximately the same shade as the envelope my phone bill arrives in. But I realize this, and I accept my limitations. I don't flaunty my skin where all the world can see it...and go blind. So for the sake of your loved ones, if you're that pale? Keep the shirt on. Or at the very least, invest in some good self-tanner. Labels: random musings, sun Saturday, February 23, 2008Is that the sun??In Seattle, it's not uncommon to go months without really seeing the sun. Oh, we have daylight, but even on the non-rainy days, it's usually overcast to the point of bleakness. Our winters are rainy, cold and gray. At least, that's a typical winter. But we've now had a week of beautiful days, culminating in today. Sunny and mid-50's. I'm even venturing out without a jacket! This is my favorite kind of day, full of possibilities. So here's to the sun! I'm off to enjoy it for a bit. The writing can wait until a little later this afternoon. You know. When the sun goes down.Labels: happy times, sun, writing |
