My good friend Emily is running a contest in conjunction with the release of her latest online novella, A DUKE FOR ALL SEASONS. Each month my readers vote for the direction the story should take and I write the next chapter. March is the last month a vote will enter readers in my March 31'st drawing for a $100 gift card. The link to the contest is: http://www.emilybryan.com/contest.htm Now, even if you're not a huge historical reader, you know you want a chance to win, so what are you waiting for? Go vote!
Is it nap time yet? I spent the weekend at the Emerald City Writers Conference, hosted by the Greater Seattle chapter of RWA. All I can say is, wow, what a weekend. I love going to our local conference. It's an opportunity to catch up with old friends, make some new ones, sing bad karaoke, and hopefully make some headway with my writing career. This year is the one where I made headway. A few months back I mentioned I finalled in the Emerald City Opener, the annual contest associated with this conference. Every year I think about entering, and this was the first year my nerves didn't talk my hands out of it. And boy, am I glad I followed through. First was the call to tell me I finalled. Then was the unbelievable moment when I heard my name announced as the...1st place winner! I'm still in shock. I swear, I sat there for a good 30 seconds before it sunk in. I'm so thrilled to have shared that moment with so many good friends. Their cheers drowned out my nerves for once. Of course, now I'm home and it's time to button down and send out those lovely requests that the editors and agents I met are all eagerly waiting for.

Is anyone else besides me feeling the crunch? There's never enough time, we all know this. But now there's really not enough! Three weeks left of school, with at least four-five weeks worth of material I still want to cover. Oy. On the other hand, three weeks until summer! It's felt like it around here, what with all the sun-shiney weather we've had. Bee-you-tee-ful! So to celebrate summer's approach, please congratulate the winner of Giving Up the V...Allison (aka Anonymous). Wooh-hoo! I'll get it into the mail shortly.
I spent most of the weekend working, but managed to get some outdoor time in by rollerskating around Greenlake with The Boy. How about you? What did you do?
I don't know about you, but I've been biding my time until I could post my latest contest. Since it's both my birthday and a holiday weekend, I decided to share the joy. Serena Robar's Giving Up the V comes out next month, but you can win it here early!
What's So Wrong With Waiting Spencer Davis just turned sixteen. But unlike most hormonal teenagers who seem obsessed with sex -- like her entire crew of friends -- Spencer just doesn't get it. She'd rather wait for the right guy and the right moment. But that moment may be arriving sooner than she'd thought. Enter Benjamin Hopkins, a new transfer student who seems to have his eyes on our V-card-carrying heroine. He's gorgeous, funny, suave, athletic, and capable of making Spencer's knees wobble with a single glance. Spencer has never felt this way about anyone before, but is Ben truly V-worthy?
I devoured this book in just a day once I got my greedy little hands on an ARC. Now it's your turn. Simply leave a comment telling me how you plan to celebrate the holiday weekend by Monday, 12 noon, and I'll draw a name at random to win a signed ARC of Giving Up the V.
Carolynn! Drop me an email and let me know your mailing address (or if you'll be at the meeting next week, I'll just bring it then.)
In other news, Passover is well on it's way. Two days in and I'm already tired of matza. This doesn't bode well for the duration. Wednesday was a crazy busy day. I ran around doing last minute shopping until about 3, then came home to have The Boy move furniture while I made soup. Lots of soup. Two big pots of soup. But boy, did my apartment smell yummy. The evening went smashingly, without the smashing of plates or glasses. We managed to fit three tables, 14 chairs, and 14 people into my apartment...and there was still room to maneuver. Well, mostly. Note to self, in the future, don't give inside seat at card table to the 6'1" guy. It's just mean, not to mention a hazard to all wine glasses. I love hosting gatherings at my place, and Wednesday was no exception. Despite the matza crumbs that I'm sure are still hiding in the carpet, despite the fact I've managed to lose (and quite possibly throw out) the spout cover to my tea pot, I'm already looking forward to the next get together.
My district is finally on Spring Break, which means I'm finally getting my much needed "vacation." Not that I'm going anywhere, really. But the break came sneaking in and bringing with it sun, sun, and more sun! After months of the rain, sunshine and almost 70 degree weather is downright tropical for me. So is it any wonder I broke out the bicycle this afternoon? Of course not. Mom and I have another ride planned for tomorrow, and I hope the ride is smoother now that I've already done one. In honor of Spring Break, good books, and a chance (finally!) to relax for a few days, I'm offering another contest. All you have to do is leave a comment telling me your favorite thing about Spring, and you'll be entered to win a copy of Julia Harper's For the Love of Pete. Contest runs through Thursday night at midnight and the winner will be announced Friday morning. Make sure to check back on Friday, not just for the winner, but also to hear about how I fit 14 people into my tiny apartment for the first night Passover Seder.
This weekend The Boy and I decided to try snowshoeing. I know, I know. We all know how much I hate the cold. But snowshoeing came highly recommended, and I was in the mood for a bit of an adventure. So early Saturday (early for him, not me) we gathered our snow gear and drove east to Snoqualmie Pass.
Once there we checked in, and after a quick jaunt over to the ski area, returned to sit in front of the fire and wait for our guide.
I learned some important things on this little hike.
snow shoes are one size fits all...and you better hope you're that size.
some people can walk in them, some can run.
some can't do either...and you don't want to be behind them on the trek.
sometimes running down the hill is easier than walking.
it is possible for a tree to stay alive, even when lightening and a fire have eaten away the entire core.
woodpeckers peck perfect rectangles.
you can stay warm while treking through the forest...but once you're done you'll freeze your tuches off.
it is possible to change back into jeans from your snow pants, in a car, without anyone seeing.
this is a very COLD way to change your pants.
The last thing I learned? I like snowshoeing. Not sure I'd climb a mountain with them on, but I had a lot of fun.
***And now...for the winner of my contest. Genella! Genella, please email me at erin @ erineisenberg.net with your mailing address and I'll send out your prize. Congratulations!
As a romance writer, I feel it's my job to support all romance-oriented holidays. How can I not enjoy a holiday that's all about the Love?
A good friend pointed out to me that as a child, her father was vehemently opposed to celebrating Valentine's Day, as it is a "Christian/Catholic" holiday (St. Valentine anyone?). Being as they, too, are Jewish he didn't go for it.
This has never been a problem for me, mostly because of the commercialization of the holiday. Let's face it, folks. It's become all about the Hallmark card. The funny thing? I couldn't care less about the gift giving aspect. I just love the idea of an entire day devoted to the very thing I'm basing my writing career on...love. Of course, as little as I care about the gift, I do love the card (and I got a wonderful one this year).
So, in honor of Valentine's Day (even if it's a little late), I'm holding a contest. Entering is easy. Just leave a note in the comments section by Sunday at 5pm and you're automatically entered to win a copy of Gerri Russell's Warrior's Lady, the last in her Stones series.
...under a pile of books. How is it that no matter how quickly I read, the book pile grows faster? Is it an addiction? Do I simply lack the ability to say no when it comes to buying more books? Does it have to do with the belief that if I don't buy the book RIGHT NOW it won't be there when I want it? Or am I simply the weakest link and dependent upon a pile of papers to keep me happy? Yeah, I don't have the answer either. But share with me your weakness, and I'll share with you a book I picked up a the recent Emerald City Conference (and yes, pics coming soon). I'll pick a name at random from comments left. Contest ends Friday, Oct. 24.
It's been too long folks, so to gear back up into what is my normal life (and away from all the drama of the last month), we have a contest.
Entering is easy, all you have to do is leave me a comment telling me what you love best about fall. See? Simple.
What's the prize, you ask? In honor of the new school year I have a YA themed treat for you. The winner will receive a signed copy of the now out of print Braced2Bite by Serena Robar, a copy of Shrink to Fit by Dona Sarkar, as well as a copy of Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr. All of these authors are fun, fabulous, and guaranteed to leave you wanting more.
So leave me a note, and take a chance. Winners will be announced Friday, September 26th.
The good news? Geek Squad came through for me. They recovered most of my files, and are shipping them home where they belong. Whew! I cannot begin to tell you the level of relief I'm feeling right now, knowing that I don't have to find a way to rewrite 4 months worth of work. As for the contest, the details are below. The winner will receive a copy of Jane Porter's latest book, Mrs. Perfect, along with Shannon McKelden's Venus Envy and Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird. Trust me, you want to win this contest. And if you don't? Tell your friends, because surely they want to win. The contest will run through next Tuesday afternoon. C'mon. You know you wanna...
Today is the official launch party for Jane Porter's newest title, Mrs. Perfect. In honor of the launch, I'm offering a contest. The winner will receive a copy of Mrs. Perfect, along with a mass market copy of Venus Envy by Shannon McKelden and Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. Entering is easy. All you have to do is leave me a comment telling me in what way you're NOT perfect. That's right, folks, I said, "Not." I want to know what slacker-status you've embraced. Have you accepted that the laundry will never be fully completed? Do you, like me, dream of a clutter free living room but recognize that it's not in the cards for more than a day or two? How are you NOT perfect. Winners will be drawn next Tuesday, May 13th at random from those who respond.
And the winner of a copy of Dating4Demons is...Jill Monroe!!! Jill, please email me with an address where I can mail the book, and I'll get it out to you. For the rest of you...more contests to come, so stay tuned!
